All action show, Frida the Cat entered the shed, jumped up on the deck and nearly showed off her scratching skills... Fortunately I caught her just in time. Plus we find out we healed Snake's car and celebrated data0's birthday. Good times and good vibes!
Played a whole slab of Talk Talk's classic Spirit of Eden album, which really is very nice indeed plus Sarathy Korwar, Prince Fatty and Joey Beltram's Technical Onslaught alias. Oh and is that new intro music? I think it is... Enjoy :)
Today's show - Postman, Mxtt & His Black Weather Cat
Bonus 3 hour special! Turns out, by coincidence, it's the 200th show as a fully functioning podcast!
The postman arrived 2 hours in delivering a heavy Prince Fatty record and there's a tonne of great music from Dub to Funk, to Hip Hop to Indie to African to TechnoHonk to Speed Garage - Wicked!
More of a punky, rock vibe with some wicked Lebanese Psych-Rock and the birth of 'that' drum sound. Of and some Irish rebel music and some TechnoHonk. Nice,
Jazzy, Dubby, Honky vibes in the first half then stepped up the tempo a bit dipping into late 80s early 90s with 808 State et al and even a bit of Speed Garage. Bo Selecta.
A wavy and intsense selection this morning, not planned, it just came out that way. Great music from Mr Davis, GOUFFRE, Prince Far I and a healthy dose of Techno Honk. Enjoy!
Today's show - Endurance, Perdurance and Produrance
As is customary round these parts, started off pretty chilled with the new Shabaka album and moved through some peak Miles, Mandingo Griot Society, Beastie Biys and MOAR. Much fun was had. Enjoy :)
Things got a little hectic with Anthropic scamming my bank account this morning so went for some long playing tracks... Then the CIA got involved... one can only imagine what will happen downstream of this. Enjoy...
Very special guest mix courtesy of Bstn, drummer with the fabulous GOUFFRE! This mix focusses on the drums and has some absolute gems. You're in for a real treat!
A bit of madness on the live stream with the server going down but thankfully @yala and @data0 were on hand to work their CLI magic and get me up and running. Some great tunes from Dub to Noise to Techno Honk and all sorts in between, oh and I go a bit mad dubbing Fabian's Prophecy at the end. Fun!
Back from Oz with a little bundle of records, some really nice finds, very happy with what I picked up. So many cool records in the Melbourne indie shops, will have to go back someday and get some more!
Today's show - Aroe & The Soundmakers - NY Pressure
Mix by Aroe and the Soundmakers
The first and unreleased mix Aroe and myself put together back in around 2006 some 20 years ago! Time flies... Some classic and rare bangers from the golden age of Hip Hop.
Once again handing over the reigns to good friend of the show, the fantastic data0! Once again beautiful, wide ranging selection packed with gems. Enjoy!
Apologies to those listening on the live stream, I became rather unwell at the end, turns out the medication I've got for my shoulder is much stronger than expected, I accidently OD'ed... Not serious but too much Naproxen is not recommended, dizziness and vomiting ensued.
I'm feeling a lot better now and I've edited out the end! Sorry if I scared anyone :)
Nice dubwise selection plus some great music from @Bitplanes and @Oleksiy!
There's been a lot of fake news about warm weather but George, the Feline of Fahrenheit says it's still less than warm. So I can only conclude any 'warm' you're experiencing is due to some sort of Phil Collins mind beam penetrating your brain. We have the science. It is LESS THAN WARM #FactsDontCareAboutFeelings
Playing some works in progress from my band, Liotia which now appear to have a certain Mr Wimbish playing bass on them.. Still work to do with arrangments etc. but shaping up nice!
Lots of fun today, got a new Dub FX box courtesy of Sitka Instruments which is suuupppeerr cool so the show's peppered with sirens like my name was Jah Shaka! Loads of great Funk too. Win :)
I'm off on a gig so handing over the reigns to the fabulous bitplanes for a guest mix. Wonderfull spacey prog, electronica, drum and bass and more, including some bitplanes originals. Lovely!
Borrowed the Koto synth from work so played with that a fair bit and played loads of great electronic, plus some new music from my next release, hopefully a more mystical experience than my last effort. Enjoy yourselves!
Records are funny, some have been through all kinds of drama yet play fine, some new ones get unexpalined hairline scratches and other's crackle like a crackhead eating Poco Pops in a witches' laugh.
Also some hot news and work in progress from me. Enjoy!
Today we get down to really important matters, should this record be played at 33, 45 or backwards? Not an easy call, only science can decide. Tune in to find out the results.
The live stream started a little late as I find myself in some weird time slip BUT when I finally got my arse into gear, came with some funky, soul, dubby hoppy fun. Hope you enjoy :)
Been after the Curtis Mayfield Live album for quite a few years and finally nabbed a copy so a bunch of tracks from that and, as seems customary on the internet, I felt compelled to react to it. No thumbnail image but feel free to use your imagination.
Don't be fooled by the show title, despite having no idea what to call today's show, it's packed full of great music, plus some unreleased and work in progress bits.
Rotated some records from the house into the shed so a few not previously played before on the show, jazz, funk, reggae and The Muppets. What's not to like?
No need to smash any like buttons. Maybe smash the state instead? Just a thought...
Started slow with some folky Americana but after the weather went to straight up bangers with some wicked Hip Hop, Electro and Breakbeats, including a horny Egyption who scores 9.5 on the Marvin scale!
So the big news the world is waking up to this morning, George, the Feline of Fahrenheit has reported a change in temperature. It is now WARM! #Fact. Lots of warm sounds from around the globe. Nice.
Also a little treat with some live audio from our recent Japan gigs, first airing on here (will reach mainstream platforms in due course I guess, I don't know. Indie-web ftw)
Currently away on family duties but here's a special one... This is a mix I did with grafitti artist Aroe back in 2008, absolutely jam packed with classic Golden Era Hip Hop from the city of Philadelphia. Loads of rarities, mash ups, special mixes and outright bangers! Hosted by Philly legends The Tuff Crew
Aroe & The Soundmakers - The Wreckshop 2008 Sleeping Giant Records.
As ever, on podcast apps, RSS, self hosted site, you know, proper internet. The only walled gardens are the walled gardens of your mind... or something.
The last of our listener guest mixes and this one's a banger! Bought to you by our Russ and it's bloody marvellous. Enjoy!!
Massive thank yous to data0, Doktor Lond, Dave and Russ for giving up their precious time to do these, I've loved listening, such a wicked, diverse selection.
All being well I'll be back on Monday and hopefully some new records from my travels!
The Kalimera Show has always been a bit of a personal tribute to the pirate radio DJs I listened to growing up. I'd tape stuff at my dad's house whenever I went to see him, most tapes got lost but fortunately, these still exist and now you can hear too :)
Extra long show today as I'm prepping for next week's gigs in Japan. There's a couple of easter eggs in this one not on the track listing, secret squirrel business.
They'll be no live streams next week BUT there will be special guest mixes from some of our regular listeners and they're bloody brilliant! So stay tuned for those, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
Kalimera! No live stream today as I'm away working but here's a psychedelic mix I made last year with all sorts on it. Normal service will resume tomorrow.
